Athenaeum Theatre LINKS
The Melbourne Athenaeum is Melbourne’s oldest cultural institution, starting life as the city’s first Mechanics Institute in 1839. The building was added to the Register of Historic Buildings in 1981 and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
Today’s Athenaeum houses the heritage-listed, 1000 seat Athenaeum Theatre, the Last Laugh at the Comedy Club, the Melbourne Athenaeum Library, Bistro D’Orsay restaurant and a retail outlet.
